Begonia Amphioxus × Malachosticta is an unusual hybrid for lovers of distinctive tropical foliage. Combining two fascinating begonia species, it offers the pleasure of watching a specialist plant develop in a carefully tended collection. Leaf shape and markings can vary between individual hybrids, giving each plant its own character. A warm, humid growing space with gentle airflow will help this begonia thrive.

Care Guide

Light: Bright, indirect light or gently filtered light. Avoid harsh direct sunshine.

Water: Keep the compost lightly moist, watering as the surface begins to dry. Avoid waterlogged roots and prolonged drying out. Try not to wet the foliage.

Humidity: Prefers high humidity with gentle airflow. A suitably ventilated terrarium or plant cabinet can help provide consistent conditions.

Temperature: Keep warm, ideally 20–26°C, away from cold draughts and sudden temperature changes.

Feeding: Use a diluted balanced houseplant fertiliser during active growth, following the product instructions. Avoid overfeeding.

Soil: Use a light, airy, moisture-retentive but well-draining mix with added perlite, in a pot with drainage holes.
