The Mini Calathea Rufibarba, commonly known as the Velvet Calathea or Furry Feather Calathea, is a wonderfully tactile and deeply distinctive calathea of considerable charm and collector appeal, producing long, narrow, lance-shaped leaves of a rich, deep green with gently undulating margins and a beautifully smooth, almost velvety upper surface, while the underside of each leaf is clothed in a soft, dense covering of fine purple-burgundy hairs that give the plant its common name and a wonderfully luxurious, tactile quality quite unlike any other calathea available. The slender, elegantly arching leaves and the rich purple undersides create a wonderfully refined and sophisticated display that catches the light with a subtle, shifting depth of colour and texture of considerable decorative distinction.
