Drosera capensis, the Cape Sundew, is a fascinating carnivorous plant with slender leaves covered in glistening, sticky droplets that trap small insects. A sunny windowsill lets you enjoy its unusual foliage up close. Keep its roots wet with mineral-free water and it makes a rewarding introduction to carnivorous plants.

Care Guide:

Light: Very bright light with several hours of direct sun. Introduce stronger sunlight gradually.
Water: Keep the growing medium constantly wet. Stand the pot in a shallow tray of rainwater, distilled water or reverse-osmosis water. Avoid mineral-rich tap water and never let it dry out.
Humidity: Normal to moderately high humidity with good airflow. Avoid misting the sticky leaves.
Temperature: 15–25°C is ideal indoors. Protect from frost and excessive heat.
Soil: Use an unfertilised specialist carnivorous-plant mix. Do not use ordinary houseplant compost.
Feeding: Do not apply fertiliser or feed meat. It catches small insects naturally.
